It’s finally here – the summer holidays!
As Mrs. Wright and Mr. Burke finish up loose ends this week, we wanted to remind families who haven’t picked up report cards that we have dropped them in the mail and Canada Post will be delivering them to you shortly.
A reminder that the Summer Lunch Outreach program will be on site at King Albert all summer long. It runs every Wednesday and Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., from July 3 to August 30. Bagged lunches available free for elementary school-aged children. Pickup locations at Leslie Frost Public School (51 Angeline St. S.), St. Mary’s Catholic Church (40 Russell St. E.), King Albert Public School (49 Glenelg St.), and Queen Victoria Public School (11 John St.)
For more information call 705-324-0707 or 705-878-5331 x 2.
The Summer Learning Program commences July 15 and runs for three weeks at King Albert. Students enrolled from SK – Grade 2 will be participating in daily activities led by teachers to help address and prevent the well known and debated summer lag in learning.
The office will re-open the week of August 26, with the first full day of classes beginning on Tuesday, September 3. Any families wishing to enrol their children should visit the school prior to the first day of classes to register. Families who arrive on or after the first day of classes should expect delays in start dates for students to allow time for processing new registrations.
On another note, we had another year where 35% of our students missed more than 20 days of school this year. Moving into 2019-2020, the school will be taking a more active stance on attendance protocols to ensure students are at school and on time daily. These persistent absences have a significant impact on student achievement – especially in the early years.
Have a safe and happy summer and see you in September!
