Dear King Albert Families;
We hope that all of our families were able to stay home and stay safe over the holiday break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back when it is deemed safe to do so in 2021.
As you know, the Ministry of Education announced that all Ontario elementary schools will remain closed to students and re-open for classes on Monday, January 11, 2021. Learning will commence remotely for all K-8 students on Monday, January 4, 2021 for the first week of school through to Friday, January 8. The school office will be open for regular hours throughout the week.
Parents, expect our educators to call or email you Monday morning to discuss what learning for your child will look like for this week and to get information around what you need. If we do not have accurate contact information, please call King Albert Monday morning to update your contact information.
In general terms we will follow our normal school schedule with classes beginning at 8:50am either via SeeSaw or Google Classroom. Student learning will be through a combination of live lessons and videos with teacher-led whole class and/or small group instruction, group work, guided instruction, or 1:1 conferencing with the teacher. There will be normal lunch breaks from 10:30 – 11:10 and 12:50 – 1:30 with the day ending at 3:10 for all students.
For Monday, January 4, 2021, teachers will post asynchronous learning materials for students to engage in while staff spend the day connecting with individual families to ensure we have the technology and connections needed for all families in place for an equitable start on Tuesday. Teachers will also schedule a 30-minute “office hours” session Monday afternoon in their digital learning platform for students to log in and test their access and connections and meet with them to review the learning posted for the day. Synchronous learning will begin on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Parents with questions should direct them to their child’s teacher and, if you haven’t heard from an educator by noon on Monday, January 4, please call 705-324-3702 to speak with Mr. Burke or Mrs. Wright so we can ensure you get what you need.
Mr. D. Burke
