On June 12, Jack Callaghan Public School (JCPS) held an afternoon tea for the school’s volunteers to recognize them for everything they do for the school community.
The afternoon kicked off with a musical performance from Kindergarten students, who then presented the volunteers with hand crafted drawings. Attendees also received written notes from other students in various classes and enjoyed snacks.
The school’s Parent Council and volunteers play a vital role in supporting the school and enhancing the learning experiences for students. Throughout the year, the team organizes and implements various activities and initiatives, including hot lunches twice a week, the daily snack program, the cross country snack booth, and are drivers to sporting events. They run fundraising initiatives, such as the Hallowe’en Dance-A-Thon, Fundscrip, and a Community Yard Sale. Last year, the team provided materials for Family Arts Night, and this year they organized a Family Fun Fair with jumping castles, dunk tanks, games, and more to bring the whole community together. Their amazing fundraising efforts have provided the school with a Gaga Ball Pit, new mats for the gymnasium, classroom supplies, and stage lights for productions.
“The volunteers at JCPS help make this community an exceptional place,” said principal, Liana James. “They are willing to step up and help out where needed. There is never a short supply of volunteers for sporting events or for field trips. They are very generous with their time and willingness to help our school, families in our community, as well as other local schools. The school council approaches every situation with a ‘how can we help?’ attitude. They make JCPS the place to be!”
